The summer colour that makes it pop

Who would have thought that I will go crazy over a colour that demands this much attention? It slowly became my favourite summer colour to wear and not only because the dress was made in Romania even though it’s Asos. Yep, another one! The first one I came across was a satin skirt with blue dots from River Island.

And I almost stopped here, but in the meantime I wore 2 more yellow outfits. I wrote this intro more than a month ago and since than, as you might know if you read my last blog post, a few things have changed. So this was supposed to be a post about a collection of outfits, not just one, like I used to do. However, since I decided I made my own rules, I find it kind of boring to write about a yellow outfit so I will tell you a story instead. Scroll to the end of the post if you are only interested in the outfits, though.

This is a story about how I failed to tell my girlfriends that I proposed to Paul. How ironic is it that one of the things that brings me most pleasure in life – writing (and reading for that matter) is also one of the ones I am sometimes terrible at? This is no modesty speaking, I promise!

I don’t seem to have a problem with longer texts, but I am rubbish at conveying short messages. Looking back at how I chose my words when I meant to tell my friends that I proposed to Paul – and that he said yes – I can see there was definitely a better route to choose. I went for the absolute truth…but we are not the most conventional people/ couple if you couldn’t tell already from the fact that I proposed.

Let’s just say that I did not choose the “do you want to be my husband? Yes or no” (gun at the temple- just kidding). I asked him if we wanted to join me on this journey that life is and a lot of other romantic blabber and took the ring out. So this is literally what I told my friends. The “join me on this journey” part…confusing much? We are still laughing about it…possibly in yellow outfits that I will mention again because my SEO seems to like it if I use the key word more often than absolutely necessary for any human being to notice it.

For more pictures of the promised yellow outfits, scroll down:)

Are we born with style?

I find myself looking through magazines – currently Harper’s Bazaar, previously Vogue and exclaim from time to time – this model has style! But then I see, at the bottom of the page the name of the stylist…which does not mean that outside of the picture that I see the model doesn’t have style. It just means that I will take the stylist’s name, type it into Instagram and have a curious look at her/his Instagram.

Being surrounded by stylish people, I am pretty sure rubs off. Looking at pictures of outfits from when I was a teenager, I quite hope that good style rubs off and that it can be learned. I would be curious to ask a stylist this question.

Did you expect me to give you an answer for this question? Than I must disappoint you and throw the ball back by asking you – what do you think? Are we born with style or is it something that we can acquire along the way?

Not that is has much to do with style, but I have been binge watching a Vogue fashion series. It is with the International Editor-at-Large, Hamish Bowles who introduces us to his favourite places to buy vintage for his almost life-long collection in the making. Even though I used to, I am not one that has the patience to go thrifting any more, but now I started understanding the charm of it so I might venture into charity shops in the hopes of finding a lost Chanel blazer. Haha, sweet dreams! Did I say how the series are called? Vintage Bowles – if you are just slightly into fashion, I guarantee that you will enjoy it.

P.S. I’d be really curious to see what you think – are we really born with style?

How to wear a white suit 4 ways

Would you think that a white suit is as versatile as I’m going to convince you that it is? From an office look, to a more rock and roll one, to a wedding and a day out with the girls. Do I have your curiosity yet? To be perfectly honest, a white suit was never my first choice. I am quite a practical girl and I wear foundation all the time so for the longest time I stood away from anything white. But, I am now hooked on the trend and I am going with it.

Psst! Don’t tell anybody but I am actually washing my suit in the washing machine at 30 degrees and it kept the shape perfectly. That sounds pretty practical to me, doesn’t it?

Another thing that has always put me off about suits was the fact that they used to be really stiff. Not this one – this white suit will not keep your free spirit in a cage, I promise! Now, I can’t do a full stretching routine in it, which I think is fair enough, but any other natural movement you’d want to do, you won’t be constricted by this one.

Shall we have a look at 4 different ways that I styled the suit? In two of them I am wearing both pieces of the suit, in two I am only wearing the jacket. Which one would you wear the most?

Reinterpreted shirt-dress and retro styling

How many of you have watched Gossip Girl just as much for the outfits as for the intrigue? I absolutely loved it! All the mean girls with their reinterpreted sexy uniforms, Serena with her more relaxed style and then Jenny who always found a solution…my shirt-dress outfit today reminds me of the series especially for the retro styling.

I remember doing marathons with my friends, staying in all day and watching the series. I liked Serena and Dan, another friend liked Blair and Chuck, we had really mixed opinions. What we did agree upon though is that we needed to go raiding the second hand shops / charity shops for interesting looking clothes, even retro looking sometimes that we could wear as if we were in Gossip girl.

Another more recent series where the fashion is absolutely amazing is Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I might be in a retro mood now, but honestly this is what inspires me the most at the moment: really feminine silhouettes, big earrings and hair accessories. My shirt-dress is not far from that either: looking at it, it makes me think of the kind of dresses Self Portrait used to do a few years ago with the many ruffles, but a bit more office appropriate with the shirt sleeves.

This might have been my favourite outfit of this year, but I am more curious of which is yours. This just gave me an idea…should I do a blog post about this year’s outfits that you liked the most on Instagram based on Impressions?

Retro kisses!

The “R” word on everybody’s lips – Raffia

Raffia is in the air…hopefully not as much “in the air” as it is in my room, but you get what I mean. It is definitely the season for it, but even before it was hyped, raffia has slowly become my way of infusing a bit of summer into the box our room is. When you hear it, you might be thinking of hats, bags in all shape and forms and maybe even earrings and shoes, but my passion for it does not stop at clothes.

I can’t say that I’ve been into home decor because we are still renting the flat that we live in so we can’t do much to it. However, Paul and I recently discovered that when it comes to decor we are maximalists. Probably, we weren’t before but at some point we’ve put up a big board where I’d pin all my magazine cuts that I liked at that particular moment (I maybe change it once a month). The room started feeling so cosy and much more “us”. So we realised that we are that kind of people who need their room to have a personality. As much as I appreciate minimalism visually, I could not live in a minimalist place.

So where is the place where a maximalist can still find cute things in the budget? (except a flee market / Car boots) Ikea! So at the moment we have one big raffia cube and a few raffia plant pots that we’ve attached to the wall and I use them as makeup brush holders. On top of that, my eyes are doing the “Puss in boots” trick every time I see a ratan lamp shade…so there will be some changes coming forward. Can it be the summer fever that got me into this? Or is it really that my home decor instinct is starting to take shape?

Just like in the previous post, I will go back through our photos and attach the ones where I am wearing anything raffia, plus a few more inspo items that might make you feel you’re on holiday…even though you’re caught in traffic (and hopefully not driving and reading).

Summer kisses!

Wedding guest outfit ideas

It’s the season to be…not jolly but attending weddings either as a guest or who knows, maybe it’s the year when you are “attending” your own wedding. So I thought, what could be more appropriate than a post about wedding guest outfit inspirations. Whether you’re looking to be the elegant guest, the floral bohemian type or the sexy chic, stay tuned for some ideas.

A few days ago, a friend of mine texted me saying that she is going for a wedding, where she doesn’t know the bride and groom too well and she was curious what ideas I came up with. First of all, it depends a lot on the wedding theme and even more, if there is a particular dress code. Also, the golden rule – never wear white as a wedding guest…only if you are going for an unconventional wedding where the bride is wearing something else.

There are a few safe options like a tailored dress, but if you are not the dress type of girl, than what? I actually made a Pinterest board entitled “Wedding Guest” where I pinned my choices for a conventional guest outfit, but something for those who like trousers and…I may or may not have pinned a few hipster options.

Now, are you ready to be bombarded by a ton of pictures?

Connecting the dots – outfit inspo for Spring / Summer

It’s been years and years since I wore dots for anything else than a show. I always thought they were too childlike for my serious self. Even Mom at some point said that at 13 I was acting like I was 30…well, that is not the case anymore. The older I get, I seem to grow a sense of humour and with it, I started appreciating amongst many other off the dot things, well…dots. Not the typical black, white or red ones, now I am into blue ones or white on a blue background.

I came across a few pieces of clothing from various brands that are creating such fun things with dots. Just think of a deep V shirt with slightly puff sleeves in blue like a Siamese cat’s eyes and cute white dots. Or an asymmetrical sating white skirt with bigger blue dots that simply asks for a dance. Or even better, a jazzy dress with a dropped waist in a classic navy blue with tiny, tiny white dots…or were they yellow?

Aaah, I could continue, but we have only taken pictures of these three, but I promise to leave more options right under our pictures. Have I managed to make you curious about this micro trend? With me it was so funny that I have not realised the pattern until I posted all these pictures on Instagram and then I see – blue dots everywhere:)

All the outfits I wore from Neon Rose

This is a brand that I didn’t discover scrolling through Instagram, or seeing a friend wearing it. One day I was curious of the new brands that are sold on Asos and just happened to click on Neon Rose. The name seemed catchy and easy to remember so I looked at all the items that they were selling through the platform. I do this quite often and then I forget about the brand, but this time, the brand’s aesthetic was right up my alley so I returned constantly.

Preparing for my trip to Romania, I knew that we wanted to shoot some pictures that showed the natural beauty of the country and maybe some tradition village life. We ended up taking a real holiday and only shot 2 outfits, but both of them had at least one item from Neon Rose.

No need to believe me when I say that this is a brand with a feminine but relaxed, cool aesthetic that is as easy to wear on holidays as it is to wear in a busy city. Have I mentioned how cute their prints are?

I will now let the pictures do the talking, but do let me know which is the outfit that you like most. Before starting to add the pictures, I haven’t realised how many items I wore from Neon Rose. I told you that every time I go on Asos, I type the brand’s name as well out of curiosity 😀

Under £100 romantic (cheesy) outfit from River Island

Now, this is not the first time that I’m writing a blog post about a River Island outfit. This high-street brand has become one of my go-tos for fun party wear, outfits to go to the office or anything really that falls under the umbrella that I like calling “casual chic”. While this might make me sound like a fossil, the older I get, the more I appreciate good quality clothes and versatility. I have high expectations from what I wear even though the price tag is a friendlier one.

The outfit that I am teasing you with today might be perfect for a spring wedding where the weather is quite unpredictable and if you;re anything like me, you might prefer a long sleeved top. For the party appropriate detail, I have chosen the pale pink sequin skirt that is an item that might fall harder into your everyday outfit choices, but is definitely a conversation starter at a party.

The puff sleeve white top £26

Talking about versatility, there is nothing easier to just throw on than a white top. I personally get bored of simple white tops so I opted for this River Island puff sleeved one with tiny embroidery details. Lets just get something out of the way: just because my outfit is the white top with the sequin skirt, it doesn’t mean that you can’t split up the two items.

This top can easily be an office staple – just imagine wearing it with a pair of tailored trousers and stacked gold or my favourite, rose-gold necklaces. You don’t even need a jacket…well, only if your work dress-code asks for it, but even so, this could be a good replacement for that crisp white shirt for the after hour drinks. Wear the top with a pair of high-waist mom jeans and a cross body round raffia bag and you’ve got yourself a holiday / weekend outfit.

The pink sequin skirt £48

This is an outfit for a maximalist. This River Island beauty (that they had in black also a few months back) is an attention grabber. I get it, it is not for everybody, nor should it be, but if you happen to be one of those people who love a bit of “extra” in their life, this is a good option.

Just finished watching “Isn’t it Romantic” with Rebel Wilson – this is exactly what this skirt is about. Not quite the romaticized reality that Hollywood / Instagram has presented us, but pretty damn close to it. It is not a wearable skirt, even though comfortable to sit down in…surprisingly, but it has it’s charm. Will look just as cute in the previously mentioned crisp white shirt for those who work in a fashion focused environment, as it does with a dainty flower print top for a wedding.

Going back to the brand, to River Island…I have a confession to make. As I promised I will be more transparent about blogging and what it takes to do what we do, I need to share this with you. Now it might be a bot that they use on Instagram, that is set to like pictures with a certain hashtag, but I’ve used that hashtag for years and this is the first time that the brand has liked one of my pictures. It’s little to say that they made my day… aaah, the simple pleasures in life:D

Kisses!
